Panch Prayag

Devprayag, Rudra prayag, Karanprayag, Nandaprayag and Vishnu prayag is a group of panch prayag In Uttarakhand. The word prayag means the confluence of two or more rivers. In hind mythology rivers are considered as goddess. Panch prayags refers to thwe five confluences of riveres - Alaknanda, Dhauli ganga, Nandakini, mandakini, and Bhagirathi. Panchprayag, confluences of the most sacred riveres is the symble of immortel piety.

 

Devprayag(1,550 ft.)

Devprayag It is located at Rishikesh-Badrinath highway. It is regarded as greatest symble of legend, heritage and traditions. Here Bhagirathi and alaknada rivers unite. After the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi at Devprayag the river is known as ganga. The sangam at devprayag is considered as holy as the sangem at Allahbad. It there are three most famous temple in Devprayag.
        Rama,the hero of Ramayana,passed here for a thousand years in purificatory exercises after killing Ravana and a temple sacred to him exists here.This great temple of Sri Raghunathji, built of massive stones,stands like a pyramid capped by a white cupola.

 

Rudraprayag

RudraprayagIt is situated at the holy confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers about 70 km ahead from devprayag. Rudra is other name of Lord Shiva.
The temple of Rudra prayag is dedicated to lord Shiva. It is the point from where two roads lead to the holy shrines Badrinath and Kedarnath.

 

Karnaprayag

KarnaprayagAt the distance of 31 km from Rudraprayag it is situatdeat the holy confluence of rivers Pindari and Alaknada.
The place is after the name of karan the eldest son of Kunti and Lord Surya. The temple is dedicated to karan.

 

Nandprayag

NandprayagAt the distance of 22km from Karanprayag it is situated at the confluence of the rivers Alaknanda and Nandakini flowing from the glaciar near nanda Devi peak.
It is said the the conbfluence is named after the king Nanda.

 

Vishnuprayag

VishnuprayagIt is situated at the holy confluence of Vishnu ganga (Alaknanda) and dhauli Ganga. There is an ancient temple called Vishnu Kund. It is believed that dev Rishi Narad worshipped Lord Vishnu here.
