Why Lord Vishnu Choose Badrinath as his adobe

Sri Badrinath is the other name of Lord Vishnu Bhagwan. The mythological story as to why Lord Vishnu choose this place as his abode sounds quite logical and intresting.
Vishnu Bhagwan always rests on his shesha sayya on the Kshir-Sagar while Goddess Laxmi caresses His lotus feet. Narada Muni who was the doyen of highest learnings expressed his displessure at Lord Vishnu's ways of living in worldly comforts. Lord Vishnu was deeply hurt by such expressions. He sent Goddess Laxmi to Naga Kanyas. Lord Vishnu then disappeared in Himalayas. The area was densely covered with Badri trees (wild berries). Lord Vishnu fed himself on these fruits of wild berries and assumed a yogdhyani posture to meditate for many-many years. Now Goddess Laxmi returned from loka of Nagakanyas only to find the holy Shesha Shayya seat as empty.
Goddess Laxmi then went to the Himalayas and found Lord Vishnu there meditating amidst dense Badri trees. On finding such an abundance of Badri trees, Goddess Laxmi addressed the meditating God as Badrinath, The Lord of Badris. Then she requested the God to kindly give-up his yogdhyani posture and return to his original sringaric form.

Lord Vishnu agreed to do so but called upon the entire mankind to abide by these three conditions.
1- That the valley of Badri vana will remain a Valley of Meditation and not of worldly pleasures.
2-That the Lord will be worshipped here on both his forms Yogadhyani and Sringaric. Devtas and other celestial beings will worship him in the Yogadhyani form and mortals will worship him in the Sringaric form.
3-That in the Yogadhyani form Goddess Laxmi will sit on the left hand side while in the Sringaric form, she will sit on the right hand side of Lord Vishnu.

Goddess Laxmi is the spouse of Lord Vishnu and usally the place of a female spouse is on the left of her husband. As Laxmi is placed on the right hand side of Lord Vishnu (Badrivishal) during the Sringaric form it is meaningful. Here in sringaric form Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi are not worshipped as a divine couple but as the individual deities with no marital relations. It is exactly for this reason that the Rawal the principal poojari of sringaric form of Lord Vishnu-Shri Badrivishal must also not be married.

During the summer months, Lord Vshnu-Badrivishal is worshipped in his Sringaric form by human beings and during the winter months, in his Yogadhyani form by Devtas, sages and other celestial beings. Of course Narada muni is the principal poojari of this entire region called Nardiya-chhetra.

The political history of Garhwal before the 10th century A.D. was shrouded in mystery till a while ago, because of the paucity of historical evidences. Barring a few literary references to texts like to great epics and Purans which enabled the historians to construct its early history. There was nothing significant which could throw direct light on the early history of this area .
